Submitted anonymously, as seen on FaceBook. With a nod to the tongue-in-cheek nature of this list, this is an excellent exposition on the fallacies of the arguments against marriage equality.
1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in the world.
9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
Why be against marriage, it’s natural, isn’t it?
1. real americans dont reject eyeglasses (majority of the americans where eyeglasses and/or contacts)
2. makes no sence at all – just because your gay,doesnt mean you encourage straight people or bi curious people to be gay.
3. again makes no sence – marrying your dog???
4.women are not property, I AM NOT A PIECE OF LAND! no woman is a piece of land. and african-americans ARE ALLOWED TO MARRY WHITES! they do it all the time.
5.just becuase 2 people get married – it doesnt mean somebody elses marriage will mean any less!!! marriage means what a couple make it mean to them, not to anyone else.
6.thats just wrong – do you seriously want people to get pregnant – just to give the child to a orhanages???? i do however agree that this world needs more children.
7. I AM GAY – AND I WAS RAISED BY 2 STRAIGHT PARENTS!!! so that proves that theory wrong,doesn’t it???
8. there are many different religions in this country – and even more through out the world…your a devoted romans catholic, aint u?
9.and what is wrong with a single mother (or a single father) raiseing a child?? they turn out just fine!!!
10. you haven’t adapted to cars? or service sectors??? just because a couple from the same sexes get married – doesn’t mean someone has to adapt to it. most people dont even have to accept it, or recognize it – as long as the goverment does thats all that matters.
